Background

The Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme was set up to address the needs of schools in need of major rebuilding or refurbishment.

Most of the existing Framwellgate School buildings are now over 50 years old, and the proposed development involves the partial demolition of the existing school, and the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility.

The development will include a wide range of departments within a single, consolidated school building, and provide a high-quality learning environment to support Framwellgate School’s aim to provide a welcoming, safe and secure environment for both pupils and the whole community.

Ahead of the re-development, a full planning application for the demolition of the existing buildings and redevelopment of the School must be submitted to Durham County Council.
