The Proposals

We propose to develop a new three storey building to the north-east of the existing school, to replace the current ageing teaching blocks.

The scheme involves the demolition of most of the site’s existing buildings, excluding the sports hall. The new school building will include an Assembly Hall and Dining Hall as well as wide range of departments, including specialist teaching spaces for Art, Technology and Music at ground floor level.
In addition, general teaching spaces for Maths and English, and the other core curriculum subjects including Science labs will be provided on the upper floors. Externally the building will be clad in a combination of brickwork and cast stone.

The proposals have been carefully designed to ensure the retained school buildings can remain in use throughout construction, and that there is clear separation between the building works and the operational school.

The scheme will also ensure that both the existing and proposed school buildings have good functional linkages and create a coherent overall ‘campus’ feel. In addition, the proposed layout offers strong security lines for out of hours community use, and enhanced coach parking and drop off facilities.

Soft landscaping will be provided across the finished site in order to improve its visual amenity and tie together the wider school site, and all existing playing fields will be either retained or re-provided in order to ensure no net loss of sports provision.

During construction works, BAM will also implement a robust Construction Management Plan in order to minimise disruption to both pupils and nearby residents.
